Today marks the 238th Birthday of the United States Marine Corps. Every November 10th all around the globe United States Marines both young and old salute the birthday of their Corps.
Whether celebrating at a formal Marine Corps Ball or in individual toasts to lost Marines, they recognize the sacrifice and service of those who have gone before and those who continue to serve.
As an Aviation Officer candidate in Pensacola, FL, although I was ‘Navy owned’, I was Marine Corps trained.
My Dad was a proud Marine Corps Aviator. My husband was a Marine Corps Aviator. Some of my best friends, both current and those that we lost too soon – are Marines.
So on this the 238th birthday of The United States Marine Corps, I say “Happy Birthday” to the men and women who are willing to be first to the fight.
Thank you and Semper Fi!
Below is the Commandant’s birthday message saluting the men and women of the United States Marine Corps and their service to our nation.
The Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. James F. Amos, and the Sgt. Maj. of the Marine Corps Michael P. Barrett, speak to Marines and sailors about the timeless Marine qualities of courage and perseverance by looking back on the landing on Tarawa in World War II, the Battle of Hue City during Vietnam, and crossing the berm into Iraq during the War on Terror. Marine determination, grit and valor make the Corps the ready force America relies on in times of crisis.??Video by Headquarters Marine Corps Combat Camera
